Pack your parachute And take it door to door Cross the border to another broken shore Tie the ribbons tight To everyone you know When they float away there’s nowhere left to go Summer tents in winter Made of sails and splinters Dream the currents guide you home Don your parachute Escape in silent stealth Spin the silk you need to liberate yourself Take a leap of faith Jump off the carousel Burn the bed behind you: no one left to tell How some get tense in winter And broken bones in splinters Dream the currents guide you home Summer tents in winter Made of sails and splinters Dream the currents guide you home

All the thoughts that swirl around And occupy my head Garbled signals Mistranslations Only make me wish that I was Dead to the crowd of voices who have to have their say They tell me if I let them guide me they can make me happy for a day The things that I obsess about Tend to bring me down Need to quit But can’t admit it Stubbornly persist until I’m All ground up and masticated As if I’m my own prey Consume me to a hollow shell if it can make me happy for a day

I've been thinking that it's time you Got used to it Pretty soon you're gonna find out It's too late to quit Shined up and stranded by the shoreline The glass betrays your bitter gaze Minor mendings might reveal the Segues to better days The highs and lows that never slow A final phase of shifting orbits That spin the dials for a while Forced to face a separation That's more than miles The highs and lows that never slow

I can hear you telling me That things will never change But you're wrong Following the paper chase Has pinned you to the wall Where you belong Signing on the dotted line Is calculated suicide Hold on Legal papers in your case You`re losing things you can`t replace Hold on Where you belong I can hear you telling me It makes no sense at all Sing along Legal papers in your case You`re losing things you can`t replace Hold on

Flickering light of temptation Failure in disguise Soft wings beat for entry Insistent fireflies Though I close the door to block the glimmer, I know it’s still there It calls me But my eye avoids the crack Because if I chance a sideways glance I’m helpless to hold back Though I close the door to block the glimmer, I know it’s still there Flickering light of temptation The comfort I despise Alluring and repulsive Outshines the bluest skies Though I close the door to block the glimmer, I know it’s still there

about

“Of all the bands exploring shoegaze in Seattle, Guest Directors are perhaps the best at getting the balance of mood and power right.”

-Nada Mucho

With their third EP, Guest Directors expands even further on their initial 'gazey sound.“Dream the Currents,” is the next step in what has amounted to an annual progression of EPs demonstrating harmonic, rhythmic, and stylistic explorations that hover around a familiar sonic center.

These five songs span from Teenage Fanclub-like jangle, the reverb-drenched pop of The Cure, to some unexpected turns in the spirit of bands like Autolux. More shoegaze-adjacent than stalwart standard- bearers of the genre, Guest Directors' confident chemistry and ambitious spirit eschew typical routes in favor of new paths.

Their kaleidoscopic instrumentation is comprised of delightfully tangled Jazzmasters and moody vocals, as well as volatile drumming and propulsive bass work. The group has mastered its musical surveillance, recognizing each bit of sonic space as an opportunity for attention, examination, and artful refinement. Collaborative songwriting unveils surprises, especially on key tracks "Parachute On" and "Minor Mendings”.
